Happy birthday to us

A very special birthday calls for a very special celebration

In 2015, Front Page turned 25, and we knew that we had to do something spectacular to mark such a momentous occasion. So we decided to hold a party-slash-exhibition—a party to share a great night with friends, colleagues and clients and an exhibition to show off the collective creative talents we’ve spent the last 25 years perfecting.

After a few team meetings to discuss ideas for the event, we began preparations in earnest. First things first, we needed guests, so we designed bespoke invitations that were hand-creased, hand-folded, hand-packed and hand-posted to over 420 lucky recipients across the world.

Our venue was SWG3 in Glasgow’s West End, with our exhibition in the Gallery and the dance party taking over the adjacent Poetry Club. Not content to simply have a gallery-style exhibition of our work, the team collaborated on some fantastic interactive exhibits, including a ‘sketch station’ where guests could leave a doodle or an autograph to commemorate the evening— a sort of DIY guestbook!

We also produced:

  • The Front Page Timeline: a 9m-long tribute to the Front Page story from its humble beginnings in 1990 to the flourishing successes of 2015, highlighting key world events that have also taken place over the last 25 years
  • A Project Room: a real-life ‘room’ set up to showcase the best of our year-long creative side-projects, including our Rum Blender branding and handmade screen prints
  • Poster Project Silent Auction: 12 posters selected from hundreds designed by Poster Project—our extracurricular creative collective—and auctioned for charity, with over £1,000 raised for Mental Health Foundation Scotland
  • The Best of #Frontpagepinups: a selection of our best Instagram photography from our fortnightly photo competition, hung from up-lit balloons in the venue’s reception
  • Who's Who: a nostalgic look at what we all looked like 25 years ago, where we challenged our guests to match our ‘then’ photos to our ‘now’ faces. We also created an app on mounted iPad kiosks, which allowed guests to mix up parts of all our faces to create brand new ones—with some hilarious results!
  • A custom-made Photo Booth backdrop complete with a plethora of fun and silly props—the perfect way to capture all the fun of the evening
  • Light show: Our amazing digital boffins designed and built a custom light show, taking our event branding and animating it in time to the music
  • Let the music play: the whole team collaborated on a playlist of hits from 1990–2015, followed by our very own DJ Marvyn J's headline set later in the evening

And of course, no celebration is complete without some top-notch tipples, and true to the spirit of the party, we came up with our own signature cocktail creations: Grand Old Time—a zingy mixture of gin and Grand Marnier; and Rum & Brazen—a tropical taste sensation made using our very own unique rum blend from the Project Room. We even had a microsite where guests could vote for their favourite cocktail, with Rum & Brazen emerging as the runaway champion.

Judging by the amount of laughter, dancing, photos and empty cocktail glasses left at the end of the evening, our silver anniversary was a resounding success, and from first concepts to last orders, the whole team had a ball.

Here’s to the next 25…
